Glute training is the most misinformation-filled topic in women's fitness. Time to clean it up.
If you've been hammering squats for months and seeing no change, the problem isn't your effort. It's the strategy. Most "glute advice" online is wrong, generic, or built for someone with a completely different body. Here are the 5 myths I see kill progress for my coaching clients.
Myth 1: "Squats are the best glute exercise"
Squats are a great compound movement, but they're not the most effective glute builder. Most women dominate squats with their quads — meaning the front of your legs grows, not your glutes. To actually target glutes you need hip-thrust variations, glute bridges, and exercises that take the quads out of the equation.
Myth 2: "You need to train glutes every day"
Glutes grow in recovery, not training. Hitting them 5-6 days a week with high volume often leads to chronic fatigue and zero growth. 2-3 well-structured glute days per week is the sweet spot for most women.
Myth 3: "Heavier always means better"
The mind-muscle connection matters more than weight. You can lift heavy and barely feel your glutes if your technique is off. A properly executed bodyweight glute bridge will outperform a sloppy 200lb hip thrust every time.
Myth 4: "Cardio kills glute gains"
Excessive endless cardio can interfere with recovery, yes. But smart cardio (walking, low-intensity steady state) supports glute development by improving blood flow and active recovery. It's not the cardio that's the problem — it's the type and amount.
Myth 5: "You can spot-train fat off your glutes"
Spot reduction doesn't exist. You can grow muscle in specific areas (yes, glutes), but you can't choose where fat comes off. Body composition changes happen with overall training + nutrition over time. Real change is patient work.
What actually builds stronger glutes
Real glute development comes from three things working together:
- Strategic exercise selection — the right movements for women's body mechanics
- Progressive structure — phases that build over weeks, not random workouts
- Consistency — 3 months of focused work beats 6 months of confusion
Our Glute Program · Glutes 2.0 is built around exactly this — strategic training, clear technique, structured progressions. For women who want personalized depth, Coaching 1:1 with Yarishna adjusts the plan to your body and goals.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long until I see glute results?
With consistent training and proper structure, most women see noticeable changes in 8-12 weeks. Real transformation is a 6-12 month process.
Can I train glutes without weights?
Yes. Bodyweight glute work with proper technique is incredibly effective, especially for beginners and intermediate trainees.
What about resistance bands for glutes?
Bands are excellent for glute activation and warm-ups. They're not a replacement for progressive resistance training, but they're a powerful tool.
How is the Glute Program different from the Level Up Challenge?
The Level Up Challenge is full-body transformation. The Glute Program is specialized — focused entirely on strategic glute training for women.
